August 03 Windows Live: What we use on LiveSideAt LiveSide.net, we write about Windows Live, but we also use most if not all of the Windows Live tools and products. Of course we need to keep up with our research, but we use Windows Live because it works for us. In this series, we’ll take a closer look at what we use and how we use them. First up is Spaces, and although we host LiveSide.net on a dedicated server running Windows Server and Community Server (an ASP.net application), we’ve maintained a Spaces site, too. While we don’t post exclusively here often (and we’re doing this series to support our friends at the Windows Live Clubhouse), we’ve set up our Spaces site to aggregate our LiveSide feed here, and we keep our list of friends here, too. We get at least one or two friends requests every week, so the viral effect of more and more friends of friends coming to visit seems to be working. Setting up a feed is easy: just add a feed module. Once you’ve signed in to Spaces, click on Customize>Add Module>Other>Feeds, like this: Close the module dialogue box, save your changes, and then edit the new feed module you’ve created: Our feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/liveside. Of course you can add us to your site, we’d love it!, but you can add in any feed you want to appear on your site. Look for the RSS icon on your favorite blog, copy the shortcut, and enter it in “Feed web address”. Save your changes, arrange the module where you want it to be in your layout, and your favorite feeds will now show up on your site. You can add more than one module to have multiple feeds. April 22 Add LiveSide to your Space!Adding modules to your space is pretty easy now - let's take the example of adding a LiveSide feed module to your space. All you have to do is look at the LiveSide module on this space, and click on the plus sign in the top right corner. Then click "Add to your space". This adds a Feeds module to your site. For some modules that's all you have to do, but to add feeds there's one more step.
When you click on add to your space, Spaces will take you to your space (you need to be signed in to the live id of the space you want to add to). Once you're there, you will see a "feed" module has been added. Click on edit on the feed module, and in the url box, fill it in with http://feeds.feedburner.com/liveside. (the http:// will already be there, just fill in the rest). You can change the title of the feed module, too (say, to: LiveSide is my Favorite Windows Live Site!!!)
Save your changes, and that's it! Now whenever we post some Windows Live news and information, the post title will show up on your site in the LiveSide feed module! April 20 New Spaces features: play with them here!Hey if you want to try out messages or any of the other new Spaces features feel free to send us a message! LiveSide on Spaceswww.LiveSide.net |
